I've always been a fan of cameo details, when I saw this blouse with one I knew I had to snap it up.  Its Victoriana resemblance with a high neck and lace detailing is certainly different from my usual style, however sometimes venturing out of your comfort zone is very fulfilling.  On more casual days, I wear the blouse hanging loose back-to-front.

Kimono in Black and White

Outfit: Kimono- Vintage; Dress - H&M; Bag - Topshop; Shoes - Primark

As mentioned in my previous posts (here and here), I love anything with an oriental flavour.  Fabrics, prints and cuts can all embody the culture in a distinct way.  I love the simplicity of the colours and floral pattern on this kimono shaped blouse, it's become a go to piece to throw on over the most basic of outfits.

Happy 2012

2011 has probably been my favourite year so far, full of varied and exciting experiences, from spending 4 months travelling to beginning university this autumn.

Fur and Florals

Outfit: Skirt, Jumper, Fur, Bag - Vintage; Shoes - New Look;

Over the past season, I've noticed an increasing amount of faux fur on the streets. Whether it's been in a hat, a head warmer, a scarf or a coat, it is something that always looks so wintry and warming, I've been lusting after a piece for months. I purchased this stole recently from a vintage fair and it provides the perfect scarf for a chilly day out. Next up, I would love a Russian Zhivago style fur hat to keep my head toasty through the oncoming months.

Our Christmas tree is decorated unlike many others. It is a family tradition to buy some form of hanging from each new country and city that we visit, a display of our travels. My Mum and Dad began the tradition 25 years ago when they spent a year going around the world and the collection has continued to grow. This year we have several new additions: a mini rickshaw from Thailand, a Henna patterned moon from India and an oriental decorated elephant from Bangkok.

Knits to keep you Toasty

Last year I did a post on my favourite elements of winter.  One of those featured was 'chunky knits to keep you toasty'.  Knitted cardigans, knitted scarves, knitted hats; these are all pieces I couldn't survive the winter without.  The past week has required such clothing as the weather has been chilly, icy and featured several (brief) snowfalls.  Above are four of my favourite knitted articles, ranging from jumpers to cardigans to snoods, all of which I layer when temperatures take a dip.

Revisiting my Youth in a Duffel Coat

Outfit: Duffel Coat - Charity Shop (originally Marks & Spencer); Dress - Vintage

Duffel coats are an item that I either associate with the military or children's outerwear.  Over the ages of 3-7, I had several, ranging from a camel coloured one to all over green and blue tartan.   This red one I purchased in a local charity shop and I've found it to be a more vibrant alternative to my standard black, woolen coat.  Plus I love the detailing of the plush, large hood, pleating on the back and ample size pockets.


Apologies for my lack of recent posts readers.  A combination of uni work, deadlines and a ski trip has meant that my blog hasn't been a priority and has lacked in updates over the past month.  Now I'm back at home, here's hoping my posting will be more regular!

Casual in a Floral Shirt

Outfit: Shorts, Scarf (worn as a belt), Bag - Vintage; Shirt - Monsoon; Shoes - New Look

Last time I wore this shirt, here, I went for a more dressed up approach with a tulip skirt and miniature heels.  However, for a relaxed outfit for the weekend, battered vintage shorts, woolen tights and a pair of red suede shoes will keep the look casual and comfortable.

Vibrant Orange

Outfit: Jeans - Primark; Jumper- Topshop; Shoes - Duo; Bag, Headscarf - Vintage, Bangles -India

For the rest of this week it's looking to be damp and drizzly, with heavy fog and wintry temperatures lingering around.  At my university, it's also what's known as '5th week blues', halfway through the uni term when everyone can become a bit despondent and depressed.  To counteract this, I have decided that every outfit that I wear this week will contain one vibrantly coloured piece, this orange jumper being perfect as it's both warm and bright.  I will also be wearing this orange skirt at some point and this red dress for a night out.

A Pretty Patterned Blouse

 One of the simplest ways to add interest to an outfit is in a statement piece, like a patterned blouse.  Personally I love those of the sheer variety with a mix of details, like the large bow and draping of the sleeves on this one.  Even when paired with the most low maintenance of basics - leggings and a trench it still looks like you've made a moderate effort.

Switching Skinnies for Flares

Ever since Kate Moss and Sienna Miller began the hype surrounding skinny jeans, they have been the staple jean shape featured in my wardrobe.  However, recently I've been seeing so many people working the flare with a refreshing vibe, I wanted to give it a go.  This outfit of casual jeans and one of the warmest knits I own is something I turn to on chilly days when I'm feeling a bit under the weather.  Like eating comfort food, it's comfort clothing.
